Do prostate supplements work for urinary symptoms?
Mostly no, based on the trials we could find. The strongest data come from saw palmetto, and they are not encouraging.
A 2012 Cochrane review pooled 32 trials with 5,666 men and found no benefit for urinary symptoms (Tacklind et al., Cochrane 2012). A one-year trial of 225 men found saw palmetto no better than placebo (Bent et al., NEJM 2006).

Why do some men say prostate supplements work?
Several things can make a supplement seem to work without helping. Urinary symptoms rise and fall on their own.
